Sea Of Stranraer Waterfront Masterplan and Urban Design Strategy

023Working closely with Dumfries & Galloway Council we have gone through the process of SEA screening, scoping and producing an environmental report that addresses the key environmental issues raised by the future plans for the Waterfront.

The Waterfront will be in need of future development as the Stena Line ferry moves its terminal out of Stranraer harbour to Loch Ryan Port, some 10km north of Stranraer.  The key issues relate to striking a balance between promoting new leisure and tourism activities around the shores of Loch Ryan at Stranraer with the protection of important migratory bird feeding areas within Loch Ryan and preventing adverse impacts on protected species such as the otter and seal.

One of the key conclusions is that the Waterfront Development Plan will need alongside it a management plan for the wider Loch Ryan in order that the potential environmental impacts from increased light boat activity are minimised and the nature conservation interests of Loch Ryan are safeguarded, and where appropriate promoted and enhanced.
